Was Jesus Serious?

For the last several weeks we've been analyzing Matthew 10 and identifying how Jesus interacted with His disciples. Today we're going to look over verses 1-31 and share key points we've learned as a congregation.

Open your Bible and get ready to participate for the next 20 - 30 minutes. Remember, As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17

As you are reviewing these passages, ask yourself how serious Jesus was and if or not you take Him serious pertaining to these scriptures.

The Call
- Describe what Jesus did when He called His disciples in Matthew 10:1-4

The Sending
- Talk about the detailed instructions Jesus gave the disciples as He sent them out in Matthew 10:5-15

The Expectations
- Matthew 16-26 paints a picture of what the disciples can expect on their journey. Choose a scripture among verses 16-26 and re-state it as if Jesus was talking to us today.

Don't Fear Man, Fear God - Verses 1-26 would give anybody a reason to fear in the natural. Matthew 27-31 point out the significance of obedience. Elaborate on the verses that Jesus seems to be giving instruction to obey.

The Ministry of Fun

This might very well be the most unlikely blog you would anticipate me writing during this season of prayer at CentrePoint.  It's not that it's an unusual subject matter. It just might seem, well a little out of place based on the fact that we are in serious need of the Lord to show us the plans He has the future of our church.

Let me first of all start off with a question.  When was the last time you had a "gut busting" time of pure laughter?  Yeah, I asked it.  You heard me right.  Just a time of fun where you acted silly and maybe even a little out of character.

I just can't believe Jesus spent all of His waking moments being "super spiritual." He had to have some fun at the wedding feast.  He had to have fun when the children came around.  He had to have fun when He hung out with the disciples. He had to have fun with His parents and family.  Surely the Bible wouldn't talk about how a "merry heart does good like a medicine" (Prov 17:22) if laughter wasn't somehow involved.

Imagine with me for a moment.  Imagine having so much fun your friends and neighbors began to comment about how you just seem to enjoy life.  In my opinion, making a joyful noise is not just inside the church walls unto the Lord.  It could very well be in the park with our children.  It could be as we watch a ball game.  It could be at a wedding of a friend or loved one.  You get my drift?  Joyous believers are contagious believers.  There are tons of folks who like being around "fun people." Those fun people ought to be believers. They should be us.

I want to challenge you and it really shouldn't be a challenge.  Take some time to laugh.  I mean laugh out loud. Laugh on purpose.  Laugh by yourself.  Laugh with your loved ones.  Laugh with your neighbors.  Laugh with strangers.  But most of all, laugh with your Heavenly Father. You know He is in the business of inhabiting the praises of His people.  Never have I seen a person praising God who wasn't happy about it.

Let's continue in this season knowing that God loves us to sing His praises but He also wants us to have fun in life.  It's part of abundant living to be full of joy.  Joy is one of the ingredients of a happy home, a happy work environment and a happy church.

The world needs to see joy now than ever before.  The people they will find filled with joy during what are seemingly tough times are believers. Let it be said of CentrePoint, "there goes a bunch of happy, fun, joyous people." If you really believe you were created in the image of God, know that God is not boring.

I declare today that I am a Minister of FunDon't go getting all spiritual on me.  Make the declaration that you too are a Minister of  Fun.  Have some fun with it. Laugh a little.  You'll feel a lot better.

May the joy of the Lord be with you,

Pastor Cedric

Have a little fun with Ronnie Ex & Bruce Visscher

CentrePoint During This Season

The Lord has led CentrePoint into a season of prayer. This is not an ordinary season of prayer.  We are seeking the Lord the direction of CentrePoint.  We have stripped ourselves of our ideas and plans.  We have come to a point of seeking the face of God, hearing what He is saying and doing what He says.  This might sound pretty ordinary because after all every believer does this.  Well, in our case as a congregation, we are desiring to give birth to a new vision, a new mission, new ministries and basically a who new way doing what has commonly been known as "church."

No longer will we attend church knowing the outcome before we show up because that's what happened last week and the week before. We will no longer settle for the status quo. We will expect God's best every waking day.  What better place to learn this than in church.  So we're off and running with a new approach.  Something we should have done a long time ago.  The things we do best together are praying and worshiping the Lord. So we will worship and pray together until we get news from Heaven about our next steps as a congregation.

Some of the things I believe the Lord is saying to us now revolve around our relationship as a church family.  In sense the Lord giving us clear direction to connect with each other more by whatever means necessary.  When we fellowship together on Sunday mornings, I believe we need to take time to dine together every once in a while.  I would go as far as saying it is some important that we develop a fund specifically for "Church Fellowship." That way everybody can participate because as a church we will have the funds available to pay for the meals we have together in a restaurant, catered at the church or in someone's home.

The investment we make in each other is priceless.  When we invest in each other we strengthen our body.  When our body is strengthened, we are strong enough to serve others.  I can see the Lord bringing those in need to us as we help meet the needs of our own body first.  As simple as a Church Fellowship may sound, I believe it our the first step beyond worship and prayer that we need to take.

New Living Translation (©2007)
All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer.

Spreading the Goodness of God

What will it take to see God do more than you ever have before? Do you think that God is short on power?

To answer these questions all we have to do is realize God is bigger than everything we can imagine and He can do more than we think He can do. So there is no issue with God.

Here's how I have been challenged by the Lord. It's simply to "start sharing what the Lord is doing in my life everyday and don't stop." There isn't a situation in life where it's inappropriate to share the work of the Lord. As I began to think more on this, I began to realize I've been slack in sharing the goodness of God. I have since repented and started "doing instead of just thinking about doing."

Perhaps you have been wondering how the Lord would want to use you. Here's my advice. Just start sharing the goodness of the Lord with others everyday and you'll start seeing the Lord in a different way. It's more than going to church on Sunday or a Bible study during the week. Our Father wants us to share His goodness everyday with those who are unfamiliar with Him.

I think of the businesses out there who make it there first priority to share about the benefits of their products and services. They know that by keeping their names in front of people, their products and services will come to the minds of their consumers when they are in need or want.

Our Father has so much more to offer. How good has God been to you? Has He blessed you beyond measure? Has He always been with you in your time of need? Has He calmed your fears in the midst of a storm? Has He healed your body when you were in pain? There is not a situation that our Father can't be exalted. He is truly the ruler of everything.

Somehow I have been pondering what would happen if God would use me to start a "revival of sharing His goodness." I say a revival because in the circles I travel (and they are Christian), very few people share of the goodness of God.

I been imagining in my mind multitudes of people sharing the goodness of God pertaining to their own lives as well as the lives of others. There is nothing magical about talking about what God has done. There's nothing difficult about sharing what God has done. It's just a matter of doing it.

Think to yourself right now. How do you honestly feel when you think of the goodness of God? Think of all the times He has rescued you from life's challenges. Think of the times you have greeted the day and you had breath in your body. Think of all the times you showed up for work and you still had a job when others didn't. Think of all the times your family members have been spared from accidents when others weren't . Think of all the times...I think you get the picture.

Will you join me sharing the goodness of our Father? The only thing that is required is having experienced His goodness. Do you qualify?

Stay blessed,

Pastor Cedric
